The Sister City Committee is created as an advisory body to the City to:

(1) Establish and maintain Sister City relationships that provide at least one of the following opportunities:

a. Economic development opportunities;

b. Cultural opportunities; or

c. Educational opportunities to both cities;

(2) Seek and evaluate the potential of new Sister City relationships and, when appropriate, recommend such relationships to the City;

(3) Facilitate exchanges on an annual basis by hosting delegations from Sister Cities or sending delegations to Sister Cities;

(4) Increase cultural awareness, understanding, and opportunities for dialogue within the City;

(5) Promote global education, cultural events, and international trade;

(6) Foster cultural, educational, governmental, technical, business, and humanitarian activities and exchanges in furtherance of citizen-based international diplomacy;

(7) Coordinate with local educational institutions to increase interest in and awareness of international cultural opportunities;

(8) Facilitate interactions between local governmental entities and business associations, including chambers of commerce or similar organizations, to promote the activities of the Sister City Committee and the economic development and cultural exchange opportunities associated with the Committee;

(9) Secure funding to permit the sending and receiving of delegations to and from Sister Cities; and

(10) Advocate for the free exchange of ideas and cultural programs across national boundaries.
